I'm from Virginia, so it pains to me say I've actually been more mad about the unwarranted praise for Let God Sort 'Em than I am the fact it wasn't good. It makes me believe nobody has ever listened to Clipse before. If this was a Jay Z album everybody would be calling it Grammy bait, the last thing Clipse should ever be associated with. I knew we were in trouble when the first guest was John Legend (actually it was the Kaws cover). Genuinely think this one is on Pharrell entirely, too, Malice deserved better than Important Rap Album beats.
don't think anything broke my spirit as bad as that Jens Lekman release. all these author albums range from "knew it was dogshit" to "mildly disappointed this is dogshit" but i had been waiting on that mf to drop for eight years and he gives us three Jens Lekman songs and 14 insipid, bloodless piano ballads. longest record of the fuckin year lol
the amateurism of the smerz album is the only reason i don't hate it actually! feels real, i like when i can hear the people making the music in the music ifkwim. lot of the tracks i dislike but i really love you got time and i got money.
I’m listening to the Time and Money song now and I very much agree with you on the charming amateurism. At the same time I agree with Eli that it can come across like a Hope Sandoval/Lana focus-grouped schtick. Will explore more of her either way.
thank you for the perfect encapsulation of why i thought everyone hyping Under Tangled Silence was living in a home with a lead pipe to the water main.
as a pop fan i felt SO gaslit into adoring the Audrey Hobart album - i’m not a massive hater of it (it fits squarely into my albums-that-should-have-been-EPs-and-cut-down-by-6-songs-or-more folder in my head) but when i saw the reviews for it, i was definitely thinking, have we listened to other pop music lately??? hello???? are we really saying this blows other releases out of the water?
agree 100% on clipse, wednesday and bar italia (possibly the worst album i've heard in years). no urge at all to hear any of the ones i haven't got to yet. also could not stand the tame impala album, conspicuous by its absense
for moi it took hearing the smerz and alex g albums live this year for me to start to appreciate them....but still hear your valid opinions and grateful nothing i truly fucked with this year is listed here 😂😂 ty for keeping it real
i'm ngl i fucking love vanities sorry. i agree it's quite empty but i think that's sort of the point--it uses quite few elements to make its statement as an album. i would call myself the type of person who falls for pure moods bait though which is probably what it is to an extent? but idk i still like it personally. would be interested to hear more of your thoughts on it though.
other than that every single take on here is based in my opinion. glad to see debunking for the boring ass clipse album and the messy and terribly produced smerz one. and i shed tears of joy to see someone speak truth about wednesday. their album is pure ear torture and i have no clue why everyone is pretending to like it.
also, it's kind of funny how every year taylor swift moves slightly farther from the worst part of the list. i sincerely hope she's not growing on you or anything.
lmaoo you're a menace and i couldn't disagree more (afterlife is awesome wtf???!!) but keep going!! im now subscribed

i also think it's more influenced by minimal wave postpunk stuff than you're giving it credit for
ive decided audrey hobert is a psy-op!
thank you for the perfect encapsulation of why i thought everyone hyping Under Tangled Silence was living in a home with a lead pipe to the water main.
kind of sounds like it was made on lead pipe too lol
wait actually an album made that way sounds way more based than anything djrum would do i lied

ohh also i fucking hate audrey hobert 10 times more annoying than gracie abrams thanks for preaching about her too
would love to team up with you on the hayley williams hater project. i'm more afraid to talk shit about her than taylor lmao
you have my shield
If ragebait, I respect you. If honest, I respect you.
genuinely some of the worst music takes I have heard all year lol
