Once reader scores sit next to staff scores, people just skip the actual critique and compare numbers, which defeats the point of having critics. I remeber when IMDB and Metacritic started doing this, the gap between critics and audiences became a meme rather than a meaningful differnce of perspective. The paywall on top just makes it worse since casual readers bounce.
